Google Ads account setup: an onboarding checklist

Prepare for a Google Ads agency account: business details, campaign goals, assets, measurement, access and funding checks before launch.

The short answer

What to know before you begin

Bring your business and destination, target markets, campaign goal, assets and a clear owner for each task. Confirm account access and funding separately, then review launch readiness. An account being available does not mean a campaign is ready.

Who this is for

Businesses preparing a Google Ads account request or handing an existing setup to a new operating team.

1. Prepare a brief that can be reviewed

Describe what you sell, where it is available and which website or app you want to advertise. Include target countries, expected media budget and any account restrictions you already know about. This lets the team review the actual business instead of guessing from an account name.

  • Business and contact details; website or app-store URL.
  • Target markets and the offer customers will see.
  • Expected budget and the person authorized to approve work.

2. Match the assets to the campaign

Define the action that matters: an inquiry, purchase, install or another business outcome. A Search brief needs different materials from a product-feed or video-led campaign. Your intended campaign type guides the preparation; availability and requirements are reviewed for the account.

  • Search: offer, landing pages, ad copy and priority search themes.
  • Shopping or feed-based plans: product information and Merchant Center readiness.
  • App or video plans: store links or usable image/video assets, as relevant.

3. Decide how a result will be recognized

Tell the team which action counts as a conversion and how you currently record it. Before launch, test the intended form, purchase or app event and check that it reaches the system used for reporting. A tag being installed is not proof that a completed conversion was received. Do not send real customer details just to demonstrate a test.

4. Confirm access and funding

Agree on the advertiser account, who can operate it, and who will approve budgets and funding. Confirm the credit amount, applicable fee and payment instructions before paying. Use the access process agreed with your contact; do not share passwords in the inquiry form.

  • Write down the account reference and operating contact.
  • Confirm the service scope and fee before funding.
  • Check recorded, available credit before requesting account allocation.

5. Review before you launch

Check the destination on desktop and mobile, verify the offer and contact details, and agree who monitors spend and handles questions. Account access, campaign configuration and platform approval are separate checkpoints. AdsGorilla can review the agreed setup, but cannot guarantee approval or campaign results.
